What are the benefits of massage?

Massage and bodywork can help release chronic muscular tension and pain, improve circulation, increase joint flexibility, reduce mental and physical fatigue and stress, promote faster healing of injured muscular tissue, improve posture, and reduce blood pressure. Massage and bodywork is also known to promote better sleep, improve concentration, reduce anxiety and create an overall sense of well-being. Among many other things! These are just the basics.

How often should I get massage?

It depends on the person. As a general rule, I recommend monthly sessions. If you’re going through acute stress or dealing with an acute injury that needs regular and more frequent attention, weekly or bi-weekly may be advised. At the very least, getting quarterly massages is suggested. Every time the season changes, think about getting a massage.

What is Reiki? For whom is Reiki beneficial?

Reiki is an energy-balancing modality which focuses on the chakras, or energy centers of the body. The practitioner acts as a conduit through which Universal Life Force, or the pure loving energy of the universe, flows to the client's energy body. The body receives the energy it needs, thus promoting health on a physical, emotional, and spiritual level. The Reiki technique involves a laying-on of the practitioner's hands over the client's clothed body.

Reiki is good for every living thing! Because it is done clothed and can be performed off the body, it can be especially therapeutic for those who may not feel comfortable disrobing or receiving the amount of touch that comes with traditional massage, as well as for folks who may not be physically able to lie comfortably on a massage table.

Do I have to get undressed?

For massage, you will get undressed to a level of your comfort. You will be appropriately draped with sheets throughout the session, only revealing the part of the body being worked at the time. For regular Reiki sessions, you will remain dressed, although it is suggested you wear comfortable clothing. If you are wearing a watch, belt or any hair ties, they will probably be removed prior to you getting on the table.

Is there any reason I should NOT get bodywork?

Sometimes, yes. During your first visit, I will ask that you fill out a form about your health history. It is important for me to know any health problems or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor's care, it is strongly advised that you receive a written recommendation for massage or bodywork prior to any session. Depending on the condition, approval from your doctor, PT, or nurse may be required. If you are pregnant, it is strongly advised that you wait until you’re in the second trimester of your pregnancy.
